I found this in the basement of my mother-in-law’s new house. Looks like it’s been there awhile. House is weird too. It has two separate basements.

Wait, so is this storage on the North facing side of the house that never sees sun and a more usable space that actually gets light?

It’s in the basement so no light most of the time.

Haha, so no discnernable reason for the two separate basements you can determine. People used to have common sense about these living arrangements back when storing dry goods was a necessity.

The one basement is original to the house and the other one was created when an addition was done. The old basement is limestone and the new one is cinder block.
